District Clothes and Shoe Drive

clothesdrive01The LowCountry’s largest FREE clothes and shoe drive will be Saturday, November 1, from 8 a.m. – noon.

This event, presented by the Walterboro Minister’s Spouses Club, will be held at New Life UMC located at 763 Green Pond Highway in Walterboro.

Bluffton UMC Breaks Ground For Expansion

bumcgroundbreaking01Bluffton United Methodist Church broke ground Wednesday, October 29, to launch an expansion of the church’s sanctuary located on Calhoun Street in downtown Bluffton.

Rev. Thomas Pearson, Walterboro District Superintendent, and Rev. Joey McDonald, Bluffton UMC, led the groundbreaking ceremony.

The $1.4 million expansion will double the seating capacity of the Sanctuary.  Court Atkins Architects and Cogun, Inc. are the primary companies involved in the project. The expansion will start in November and is anticipate to take 10-12 months to complete.

Arts and Crafts Festival / Pauwau

imageThe Waccamaw Indian People invite you to attend their 22nd Annual Arts and Crafts Festival and Pauwau on November 1 and 2 on their tribal grounds at 591 Bluewater Rd, Aynor, SC. Gates open at 11 a.m. both daysand Grand Entry on the 1st is at 1 p.m. and 6 p.m. and at 2 p.m. on the 2nd.

The Grand Entry is actually the start of the Pauwau. Just prior to the Grand Entry, the Grass Dancers are called to “Dance the Grass Down.” This ancient method is used prepare the arena for the actual entry of the visiting dignitaries, veterans, tribal officials, and others who hold positions of honor.
